Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) Course - Online from September 2024

The Signature Accredited Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL) is a qualification designed to teach learners to communicate with deaf people on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use. The learners will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of British Sign Language (BSL)

To achieve the Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL), learners must pass all 3 units:

• BSL 101 - Introduction to BSL - Meeting people, Using numbers, Weather, Transport & Directions (5 minute assessment)

• BSL 102 - Conversational BSL - Describing people, animals & objects, Using numbers, Interests & activities, Food & drink (4-5 minute assessment)

• BSL 103 - Communicate in BSL about Everyday Life - Getting around, Sharing information, Weather & Using numbers (4-5 minute assessment)

The Level 1 Award is suitable for those who:

• want to learn basic language skills to communicate simple conversations with deaf people

• want to learn new language skills as part of a programme of study

• want to progress to more advanced study and/or employment

• are studying for personal development

• are parents, family, friends, or colleagues of deaf people

The course will be on Tuesdays online via Zoom, 6pm - 8pm for 34 weeks, in term time only.

• 3rd, 10th & 17th December (24th & 31st Christmas)

• 7th, 14th 21st & 28th January 2025

• 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th March 

• 1st, 22nd & 29th April (8th & 15th Easter)

• 6th, 13th & 26th May (27th half term)

• 3rd June

• BSL 101 - 10th June

• BSL 102 - 17th June

• BSL 103 - 24th June

Course fee

£485 (+ service fee)

Monthly payment option:

£85 deposit

£50 monthly instalments x 8

Those who have deaf children can apply for funding, please go to Birkdale Trust or Ovingdean Hall Trust.
